The Spade and Spoon name has always meant the journey from the field to the table, describing the hard toil of the spade to the rich rewards a spoonful of dessert can bring. In 2021 it turned out to be well named for a plant nursery cafe when we were invited to work with the brilliant team of Staverton Nursery.

It has been a pleasure to work alongside another family driven business like Staverton Nursery, sharing the same values. We are a purpose driven company that takes pride in what we do with a passion for great food and service.

Staverton Nursery has become our home although it’s been far from the usual path. Starting with the confusing years around the 2021 COVID lockdowns to finally getting to make an amazing cafe in 2022, much loved by everyone, to then have it taken away by a fire in 2023 as shown in the gallery below.

Offering greater comfort to customers surviving the COVID Lockdown rules as the original cafe is built.

2022 Original Cafe Space

After so much time care and attention we were so excited to open the cafe space. It was much loved by everyone and we had an amazing whirlwind of a first year.

2023 Staverton Nursery Fire

With great sadness the fire took out the cafe a week before the end of our first year of trading and just as we were starting to find out feet.

2023 to the current temporary site

A temporary fix whilst the cafe is being rebuilt, so back to an ‘infresco’ eating area but this time situated amongst the nurseries flower beds.
